What is the profile of children who can use the Pictogram Room tool?
In research conducted with the Pictogram Room, most participants had autism with intellectual disability and were between 6 and 12 years old. However, outside of this research, the tool is used in numerous centres with other age groups and profiles. The tool's playful approach, in which 100% of the activities are games, makes it suitable for use in pairs, along with typically developing children who can share the games with the primary users.
Can it be used at home?
Although the Pictogram Room tool has been designed primarily for use in educational settings, there is no reason why it cannot be used in other contexts, such as at home, in day centres, or other places, provided that the necessary space and equipment are available.
Is Pictogram Room an evidence-based practice?Â
Several research groups are studying the effectiveness of the Pictogram Room tool as a focused intervention for developing body awareness, joint attention, and imitation. Current results have been positive in all studies conducted, making it a promising evidence-based practice, but still not an established evidence-based practice.
Is it possible to get the previous version for Kinect?
The versions for Microsoft Kinect XBOX 360 and Microsoft Kinect for Windows can be downloaded, but technical support is not available for those versions. You can access the installers for both versions in this folder.
How much does Pictogram Room cost?
The Pictogram Room tool is offered completely free of charge. However, it requires a computer with certain specifications, a large screen, and a Zed2i sensor to use it. You can find more details about the necessary equipment in the Download and Installation section.
Are the ARBIT project and the Pictogram Room the same thing?
No, the Pictogram Room tool was developed previously, and the Erasmus+ ARBIT project served to develop different results, including one of the most relevant research studies on the effectiveness of Pictogram Room.
Is there any training available to learn the concepts involved and how to use the Pictogram Room?
Yes, a MOOC was created as part of the ARBIT project in several languages. You can find more information about this course on the project website. Please note that the registration for this course is not always open.
